Short, medium, and long-term planning, along with prioritisation skills, are essential for high achievement in challenging academic programs. Our students learn skills that help them work effectively and efficiently, achieving a better balance between high achievement and life outside of academics.
By applying the principles of the 6 Desirable Difficulties alongside our own '1/3's Approach' during independent learning, our students deepen their understanding, effectively apply what they've learned, and retain their knowledge for the long-term. Our students also effectively monitor their own progress, maximizing their performance on high-stakes examinations.
Students sometimes find the pace of the class moves too quickly, or they struggle to understand the material while taking notes. Previewing helps them keep up with the pace of instruction and participate effectively in lessons.
Students need to be able to read for varying purposes, depending on the subject and how new knowledge will be applied. Our students use highlighting and annotating techniques to effectively apply what they learn from their reading to writing, studying, and other academic tasks.
Students often 'dive in' to writing tasks without fully understanding what high achievement on those tasks involves. Our students apply a '10-Step Writing Process' that enables them to thoroughly grasp the demands of and succeed on any writing task.
Our students view their teachers as allies on their learning journey and leverage their relationships with their teachers to ensure they maximise their potential.
Many students feel daunted by Maths, believing that this subject is simply beyond their reach, which can be quite limiting in an education system where everyone studies Maths until at least the age of 16. Our approach transforms students' perspectives, leading to significantly increased confidence and improved performance.
